Sam I Am

Ranch Protector--Woof, Woof, Woof

Sam I am

Sam came to us after Cody passed away. We mourned Cody (especially Rusty) but we needed another ranch dog to protect us from the ever present Coyotes. And it turned out that Sam needed a home. This was a match made in heaven!

Sam came to the ranch and Willa and I showed him all around. Then we took him off the leash. After awhile, Willa noticed that Sam was perking up. He had his head up and his tail up. He had a far away look in his eye--like he was examining all the borders of the ranch. That night he went on duty and he has been on duty ever since.

The person who brought us Sam, got his first Great Pyranees from our ranch, back in the days when Cody was a puppy and the ranch had sheep. Though Sam isn't likely related to Cody, it was nice to know that the people who rescued him, had a tie to us already. It saved us giving out detailed directions.

Needless to say, Sam loves us, and we love him. If we have to walk around the ranch at night, we are always accompanied by Sam who makes sure we get back to the house safely. He is gentle to everyone (chickens and cats included); but NOT to coyotes. Like Cody, he feels that no coyote should be allowed on the ranch. He even protects the wild rabbits (which have caused some distress to our lettuce).
